Psychologists delve into the study of behavior, personality, development, and mental wellness. This group does not have medical training but specializes in various evidence-based therapies. Master’s level Psychologists might focus on diagnosing learning or developmental issues in children, while others are trained exclusively in therapeutic skills. At the PhD level, psychologists engage in research, diagnostic testing, and multiple forms of therapy. They do not prescribe medication but can offer diagnosis and treatment for mental health disorders.


Clinical Social Work

Social work services provide support, advocacy, and resources to individuals, families, and communities to enhance well-being and address social challenges. They focus on empowerment, crisis intervention, and improving access to essential services.


Counselling / Psychology / Mental Health

Registered Counselling Therapist (RCTs) are skilled in techniques to support individuals with diverse concerns. A Master’s degree in counselling is mandatory. Their academic backgrounds vary, encompassing education, psychology, social work, or related fields.

Christina Murphy (she/her) is a compassionate Registered Counselling Therapist - Candidate with extensive experience supporting individuals who have faced intimate partner violence, childhood trauma, and substance use challenges. Ms. Murphy is trained in both Africentric and queer-affirmative counselling approaches, and she is committed to creating a warm, inclusive, and safe environment for all clients seeking therapy.

Ms. Murphy’s practice centers on empowering clients to reclaim their narratives, foster resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives. She specializes in life transitions, anxiety, substance use, and relationship concerns, employing a trauma-informed approach. Her eclectic therapy style incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Feminist Therapy, ensuring a personalized and empowering therapeutic experience.

With a Master’s degree in Education (Counselling) from Acadia University and a Master’s of Science (Experimental Psychology) from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Ms. Murphy has a deep understanding of positive psychology and substance use. Her experience includes providing both individual and group counselling, in-person and virtually, to a diverse range of individuals.

Currently Accepting New Clients! Ms. Allison Boyd (She/Her) is a Registered Counselling Therapist – Candidate (RCT-C) who enjoys working with both Individual Clients and Couples.

She works with individuals who are struggling with a variety of issues including; Trauma, PTSD, Grief, Anxiety/depression, Panic, Relationship difficulties, Complex Family Dynamics, Emotional Processing, People Pleasing and Perfectionism.

She works with couples struggling with communication and emotion based issues. She feels passionately about implementing an inclusive, compassionate and client-centered approach that is conducive to healing.

Her approach to treatment draws from both evidence-based models and more eclectic approaches. She is trained in EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy as an evidence-based approach for Trauma and PTSD. She also draws on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotions focused therapy (EFS) and Internal Family systems (IFS). She is also training in Gottmans couples therapy.

Ms. Boyd works with the general population 18+ for individual therapy, couples therapy, and is also approved and has experience in working with Veterans, WCB clients and people on the Autism Spectrum.

She has her Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology from Dalhousie University. Elizabeth Lorimer, RCT-C Ms. Lorimer is a Registered Counselling Therapist who leads with the values of acceptance, curiosity, collaboration, and empowerment to help clients rebuild their inner strength, embody authenticity and joy in the present moment, and enhance their self-awareness. She strives to offer an anti-oppressive and safe space for clients to explore, heal and grow. Ms. Lorimer’s work is focused on serving trauma-informed and strength-based care to individuals who struggle with general anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict, diminished self-esteem, and life transitions. Ms. Lorimer received her Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS- Dr. Clement is a licensed Clinical Psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology and a Master’s in Forensic Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She has diversified experience in a variety of settings including rural and urban community mental health, university health services, inpatient psychiatry and medicine, and private practice. Dr. Clement completed her residency in the valley (2009/2010), and has stayed in Nova Scotia since that time. She has worked in a number of areas within the health authority, including forensics, operational stress, and adult mental health. Dr. Clement believes in meeting each client with a sense of compassion and curiosity, and values the significance of empathy and therapeutic alliance as both the foundation and catalyst for enhanced self-awareness, personal growth and meaningful transition. She works with adolescents (15+) and adults, providing individual and group therapy for people challenged with issues related to chronic medical conditions, trauma, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, sexual orientation, sexuality, attachment, school/workplace stress and life transition. Dr. Clement’s training is grounded in humanistic and existential theory, which she considers to be at the core of her therapeutic approach with clients. CIRRENTLY NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS—– Ms. Tessa Barrett is a Clinical Social Worker with a passion for teaching and employing the skills of mindfulness, self-compassion and present moment awareness to help individuals reduce suffering, enhance well-being and optimize experiences of happiness and joy. Ms. Barrett completed her Master of Social Work (Health and Mental Health stream) at the University of Toronto, where she interned at the Centre for Mental Health and Addictions (CAMH) in Toronto. She has been working in community-based outpatient Mental Health and Addictions programs across Nova Scotia since April 2015.

At Mindful Therapies, Ms. Barrett provides psychological treatment to adults experiencing a range of difficulties including depression, general anxiety and panic, substance use, trauma, difficulties with regulating emotion and adjusting to life transitions.

Her approach to treatment draws from a variety of evidence-based models including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Ms. Barrett is also trained in Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, evidence-based treatments for PTSD. She has experience working specifically with Veterans and RCMP for the treatment of Operational Stress Injuries.
